Our goal is to help kids living in poverty in North and West Philadelphia by providing free diapers as financial relief to families for a basic, expensive childcare item. We hope this allows families to focus on some of life’s other basic needs to raise happy and healthy kids.
WHY NORTH AND WEST PHILLY?
Philly has one of highest child poverty rates in the state at 32.7% and what's concerning is that little kids under age 5 experience higher rates of poverty than any other group. According to PewTrusts.org, poverty in Philly is widespread, with the highest concentrations found primarily in parts of North and West Philadelphia. Thepromisephl.org says that “Even before the pandemic upended the economic and public health of our city, 23% of our neighbors lived on less than $26,000 per year and 11% lived in deep poverty, on less than $13,000. That's over 350,000 people in financial crisis every single day-over 100,000 of them children under 18.”
Diapers are one of the most expensive basic childcare items that is not covered by any type of government assistance.
